By air
- Daytona Beach International: roughly 25 miles south of the county seat, about 30 minutes via I-95. Smallest and closest of the commercial airports.
- Jacksonville International: about 68 miles north, an hour and fifteen minutes. Best domestic connections in the region.
- Orlando International: about 80 miles southwest, roughly an hour and a half via SR 417 and I-4 to I-95. Widest choice of flights and rental cars.
- County airport: located directly on the corridor, serving general aviation and executive aircraft.
By interstate
Interstate 95 crosses the corridor at the SR 100 interchange. From the exit, head east for the Intracoastal and the beach or west for the county seat and the farm country. Travelers coming from central Florida usually pick up I-95 at Daytona; travelers from the north exit south of St. Augustine.
By the old road
US 1 runs the length of the county parallel to the interstate and is the better approach if you have an extra thirty minutes. It passes through the small towns instead of around them.
Where to base
- Beachfront town: small motels and vacation rentals, walkable, closest to the ocean segment.
- Palm Coast: the largest choice of chain hotels and restaurants, a few minutes from the corridor.
- St. Augustine: forty minutes north, if you want a historic city as your base and the byway as a day trip.
- Daytona: thirty minutes south, with beach hotels at every price point.
